Would-Be Ghost Hunters Robbed at Gunpoint in El Paso, Texas

Two teens parked on the 1500 block of North Virginia Street next to El Paso High School in El Paso, Texas, were robbed at gunpoint last August 5th at approximately 11:56 pm, according to the El Paso Police Department. The would-be ghost hunters were hoping to see some of the spirits said to haunt the school, which has a reputation for high levels of paranormal activity.

The police are now asking the public for help in locating the man responsible for the robbery.

They say an Hispanic man, 18 to 20 years old with short hair and bushy eyebrows, approached the teens and knocked on the window of their car. The man threatened them with a handgun after they lowered their window, forcing the teens out of the car and stealing an Apple iPhone and some loose change before fleeing on foot.

El Paso High School is still an active school, and access to its grounds is generally limited to students and faculty during normal operating hours. The teens were parked nearby, intending to watch for paranormal phenomena from their car.

The school has long been rumored to be haunted, with folklore surrounding the facility including stories of faculty and students experiencing everything from mysterious footsteps and voices to phantom pep rallies and games in the gymnasium. There is even a class photo in El Paso High School’s trophy case that some claim shows a spectral student.

Former students claim not to have seen anyone standing there when the picture was taken, no students were unaccounted for in the photo, and no one can identify the phantom girl. Some claim that the image is of a girl who took her own life by jumping from a balcony, but there appears to be no official record to support that such an event ever took place.
