Point Pleasant unveiled this statue of the Mothman by artist and sculptor Bob Roach in 2003, one year after the first annual Mothman Festival was held.

The Mothman Festival is held annually, the third weekend in September, and commemorates the 1966 sightings in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, which are still held as the most iconic encounters involving the creature.  According to their website, “People from all over the world gather around our charming Main Street to celebrate their favorite cryptid during this one of a kind event.”  Events like these are perfect for forming fresh folklore as fans of the paranormal come together to share their ideas.

This particular festival features fortean events, guest speakers, cosplay, and an actual Mothman museum.
