Mumsnet User Reports Sighting of Six-Foot-Tall, Bipedal Mystery Creature in Rural England

An anonymous user on the parental support website Mumsnet posted a sighting to the site’s forum on February 20th describing an early morning encounter with a mysterious creature on a road in rural England.

We had been away for a few nights and travelled back quite late. Towards the end of our journey, this was about 2 a.m., we were driving along an A road in a rural area when something crossed the road in front of us in full headlights for about three seconds. It was about the height of a person, maybe six feet or over, but had short, powerful legs and hips which seemed to move in a circular, fluid fashion.

It was not a deer, because it stood on two legs. This was in the Midlands and the area is traditional rolling fields and woodland. In this particular spot, there are no houses or buildings, nearest is over a mile away.

We drove back today, as it’s only seven miles from home, to look at the road layout, and whatever it was moved into a wide bowl-shaped field, dropping down to a stream. Any ideas?

The closest the witness could describe the creature, they said, "is [as] a large man-goat on hind legs, but really stocky ones,”

Later they amended their description to say it most resembled a “thin bear” with “droppy shoulders, but wide hips, etc.”

Although, they added, it was “obviously not a bear in [the] UK.”

They said the creature was “dark brown" in color, but that it is "always hard to tell in full beam."

The witness was travelling west on the A425, “after Staverton,” when the sighting took place; near the border of Warwickshire and Northamptonshire, where the “road drops down a hill then rises back up again before the layby spot.".

According to the witness’s testimony, the creature "came from the gateway by the muckheap and crossed from [north] to [south] and into the field below."

The witness said they returned to investigate the next day, parking in the layby close to the sighting location, but there were no animals in the surrounding fields at that time.

Explanations offered by others in the thread ranged from Goatman to Bigfoot to mundane-but-out-of-place animals like a big cat, kangaroo, wallaby, or even a giant hare.

"The gigantic hare is not far off," the witness said, "but not at [six feet] though."

In addition, they explained, the creature was "[one hundred percent] not a wallaby or kangaroo. I know what they look like and their size."

Nor did they believe it was Goatman, Bigfoot, or any similar cryptid, because, they said, “These things don't exist.”

At least one other witness admitted to seeing an unidentified creature nearby in a separate incident.

"I'm [very] interested because I've seen something very strange, too, disappearing up across the fields behind the house and into the woods. It wasn't upright, though,” the second witness said.

Other witnesses chimed in to tell of reported sightings of Bigfoot and big cats in the area, too.

The first witness hadn’t heard of any Bigfoot sightings and was unable to track down a reported big cat sighting they remembered seeing “many years ago,” but they did have this to say: “One thing I do know is that whole area from Leamington to Banbury, across to Towcester and back up to Banbury is immense, covering some 150 square miles and is mostly rural with no dual carriageways and plenty of places for wildlife to hide away."

While speculation of what might have been seen continues, the creature remains unidentified.
