Documentarian Jeremy Corbell shared a video to his YouTube channel this week that he says shows military Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) camera footage of a large, disc-shaped UFO flying through the clouds over Afghanistan.

According to Corbell, the recorded object was “officially documented and catalogued within Intelligence Community investigations as ‘disc’ shaped,” and “displayed abrupt movement and intelligent control, with the absence of thermal propulsion signatures.”

“Official designation of UAP was made by the United States Department of Defense,” read a press release on his website. “This designation is currently maintained.”

UAP, or Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, is the current government nomenclature for UFOs.

Corbell listed the time of the encounter as 11:13 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) on November 23rd, 2020.

Coordinates he claims come from the reconnaissance footage (35°02.91’N, 71°17.86’E) place the UFO sighting over the mountains of Bar Kunar in Afghanistan.

A description of events published by Corbell states the object was "Filmed by a platform operating under the direction of the United States Air Force, the object was initially passively tracked and is described in official documentation as 'navigating through the clouds.' The UAP appears to demonstrate an abrupt directional change. Atmospheric disruption was noted in case documentation—as was the absence of traditional thermal propulsion signatures during performance. Its origin, intent, and capabilities remain unknown."

Some skeptics have explained the object away as a balloon or water droplet on the camera lens, but those explanations have themselves been criticized as dismissive. More open-minded viewers argue that how the object appears to move through the clouds and its directional change likely preclude the offered prosaic explanations.

However, one thing both sides can seem to agree on is that the raw footage is necessary for any definitive determination to be made. Without that—and it does not appear to be forthcoming—this will remain yet another truly unidentified flying object.
