The Singular Fortean Society received the following email with “I saw something in Indiana (near Muncie) too” in its subject line on February 16th, 2021.

I found your site on google—basically because I was trying to see if anyone had ever seen what I think I saw where I saw it, if that makes sense!

Back in October 2019, I was on campus at Ball State in Muncie (Indiana!), and my roommate and I were golfing (well, he was golfing, I was trying to, you know how it is) at Memorial Park in New Castle. It's a ways away from campus, about half an hour, but he's from New Castle so we were able to eat at his parent's house and that's where he always golfs.

ANYWAY, on our way back, we were driving up [Indiana State Road] 3 and it was starting to get dark (this would have probably been around 7:00 p.m.). I was in the passenger seat and I saw this shape outside the window—it was weird. Like a person, but it was always outside the window, like it was moving alongside the car. Then suddenly, it wasn't, like it stopped moving but we kept going. It was dark—not black, more like a dark gray, and I didn't see wings but it was definitely moving like it was flying or gliding above the ground [at] the same level as the car. It didn't really have a face, but there was a reddish glow where a face should have been.

My roommate didn't believe me, but I think I saw something. I' m not sure what I was looking at on YouTube, but something reminded me of the story. Anyway, when I saw the story on your site about the thing the guy saw near that reservoir, I was wondering if this was the same sort of thing. I looked on the map and we were definitely within 10 miles of it. After reading some of the stories, I'm getting more excited about figuring out if what I saw was something really weird or if I was just imagining it.

Investigator Tobias Wayland replied to the email in an attempt to schedule a phone interview, but never received any response.

It’s unclear to which sighting the email’s author was referring, since several have been reported near the Prairie Creek Reservoir, which lies less than five miles east of Indiana State Road 3.

So far, The Singular Fortean Society has published three Reports from the Void detailing sightings in that area.

The most recent came from a witness who commented on the article entitled 'Bat-Like' Flying Humanoid with 'an Obvious Face' Reported near Indiana's Prairie Creek Reservoir, published by The Singular Fortean Society on January 26th, 2019.

That person said they’d seen a five-foot-long creature flying near Muncie.

The original comment is no longer visible on the article, since the Singular Fortean Society website switched to a new commenting system. No email address was given and no follow up was able to be performed.

The other two Reports from the Void describe a "large dark winged creature" that came up "from out of a drainage ditch" just outside of Roanoke, and something with "leathery, almost shiny, wings" seen crouched in the road near Muncie.

Roanoke is just under 60 miles north of Muncie.

Three officially published sightings of weird, winged humanoids—including the one already mentioned—have so far been reported near Muncie, Indiana; one each in 2007, 2011, and 2018.

These sightings all centered around the Prairie Creek Reservoir, which is around two miles southeast of Muncie, and approximately 140 miles southeast of Lake Michigan. Less than five miles to its south is Summit Lake State Park. Gary, Indiana—a city on the southern shore of Lake Michigan—has also seen a recent spate of flying creature reports, and is the same distance from this sighting location as the great lake, around 140 miles to the west of the reservoir.

A man near the Prairie Creek Reservoir has also spoken to The Singular Fortean Society about a series of glowing orb sightings from 1981 to 2020 that could be related to the Lake Michigan Mothman phenomenon.

Reports from the Void is a repository to share those stories for which we do not have enough information to make a full report. This is usually because of little or no communication from the witness following their initial submission. The Singular Fortean Society will always provide as much information as possible regarding any correspondence during our attempts to speak with those involved.

This series is meant only to present you with the full breadth of the information sent to us, and makes no judgments towards the veracity of any stories shared within it.
