Ghost hunter Yvonne Hydes of The Scottish Ghost Company told the Daily Record last week that she found a mysterious bible in her attic room, and neither she nor her husband Alex knows how it got there.

The couple have reportedly used the attic room often in the 24 years they’ve occupied the house and have never seen the bible there before.

"I was completely confused as I use the loft regularly, at first I assumed my husband had been up the same day and put it there," Yvonne said. "We had no idea who it belonged to or where it came from as we have lived in the house for 24 years and are up and down in the loft regularly and both had never seen it before."

The black New Testament bible features handwritten notes and annotations in pencil, listing the name Rober Litterick with what may be an identification number and the date January 19th, 1944.

Also appearing in the bible is a stamp for M-Stammlager IVB, representing one of the largest POW camps on German soil during WWII, located in Mühlberg.

Yvonne and Alex asked around their family to see if someone had left the unexplained object in their house, but came up empty.

"We thought it might be connected to my gran who lives in Erskine hospital cottages and has links to the British Legion. When we took it to her she also had no clue, no one else in my family knows anything about it or recognizes the man's name," Yvonne said. "We really have no idea who or where it came from. None. It doesn't belong to our family, that's for sure."

David McCabe, a medium and fellow investigator for The Scottish Ghost Company, speculated that the bible's appearance might be related to the investigation of an abandoned building near Ayrshire that he and Yvonne had both attended.

The building was originally a care home, and David said that during the investigation they had used a spirit box—a device that cycles quickly through radio stations which some believe can provide a voice for otherworldly entities—to make contact with disincarnate consciousnesses residing there.

One of the beings they contacted, he said, claimed to be a soldier.

"I believe that this is a classic example of an apport, which is where an object disappears from one location and reappears in another," he said. "I think the original owner of the bible was a resident at a derelict building that we investigated. Having figured out who we were and him wanting his family to have his bible, he decided to make it appear in Yvonne's loft, knowing she would come across it."

Apports are most often associated with the poltergeist phenomenon, although researchers are divided as to their cause. Some believe that an immaterial being, such as a ghost or spirit, is responsible, while others believe that the psychokinetic abilities of certain people could be to blame, and a third contingent allows for the possibility of either, depending on the circumstances.

The ghost hunters are hoping to return the bible to its owner’s family and are asking interested parties with any pertinent ideas or information to please contact The Scottish Ghost Company at thescottishghostcompany@gmail.com.
