Fire and Rescue Officer Reports 2014 Sighting of "Green-Eyed, Winged Humanoid" in Downtown Milwaukee

Lon Strickler of Phantoms & Monsters received a report recently from a Fire and Rescue officer who said that he and his partner witnessed a “green-eyed, winged humanoid” in downtown Milwaukee in 2014.

According to Strickler, "I recently received a telephone call from a retired Milwaukee Fire Department / Medical Services officer. The call was in reference to a fire rescue where a winged humanoid was observed."

The Northwestern Mutual south building [at 720 East Wisconsin Avenue] in downtown Milwaukee was evacuated on the morning of Wednesday, November 26, 2014, [at around 8:00 am] after smoke [was detected in] the building…[The smoke] triggered alarms to the Milwaukee Fire Department.

Later that day, during the early evening, a Fire / Medical Services call was made at the same location. A window washer employee was trapped near the top of the Northwestern Mutual building. The witness [who reported the winged humanoid sighting] was the lead officer. He and another officer made their way to the top of the building.

After they ascended to the top of the building, the witness noticed movement on top of the U.S. Bank Center Building at 777 East Wisconsin Avenue, approximately half a block away from their location.

At first, he thought it was just another person on top of the adjacent building, but soon realized that this being had large wings. At the time, it was early dusk, but enough ambient light was available in order to get a good description. He also noticed 'green goggles' over the eyes, but later realized that this humanoid had bright green light emanating from [its] eyes. The body was dark in color with a [slight build], standing approximately 6 feet [tall].

As the witness and his partner watched, the winged humanoid unfurled its wings to a span of over 12 feet and, without flapping, slowly ascended into the air. The witness remarked how it flew effortlessly with its wings extended to the full width. It soon glided out of sight.

"The two witnesses vowed to never mention this incident publicly or within the department," Strickler added. "After becoming aware of the Chicago / Lake Michigan winged humanoid sightings in recent years, the witness decided to contact me. The witness provided credentials and other forms of identification, including various distinguished service commendations and personal photos."

This is the third such sighting to come out of Milwaukee so far, following a 2001 report from a witness who said he saw a "man with wings" flying over a boat docking facility on the Kinnickinnic River, and a 2018 report from a couple who said they saw a bat-like flying humanoid with "large glowing red eyes" while parked near a baseball diamond bordered by a natural area.

The building mentioned in this latest report is approximately 1200 feet from Lake Michigan, and around the same distance from two sizable parks (Juneau and Veterans).

This is the latest news in a string of ‘Mothman’ sightings from within a few hundred mile radius surrounding Lake Michigan, including every state bordering the great lake. These sightings ostensibly began in the spring of 2017, but more historical accounts are being reported as more people become aware of the phenomenon. They generally take place in the evening or at night, often in or near a park, and around water.  Witnesses consistently describe a large, gray or black, bat or bird-like creature—although in a small number of cases the creature was described as insect-like—sometimes with glowing or reflective red, yellow, green, or orange eyes, and humanoid features such as arms and legs are often reported. Some witnesses have reported feeling intense fear and an aura of evil emanating from the creature they encountered.  Many of the sightings are also of something seen only briefly or are described only as a flying creature with few details, which leaves open the possibility that a large bird or bird-like being could explain some—although certainly not all—of the encounters. A number of associated high strangeness incidents have also occurred alongside the creature sightings; including reports of UFOs, other anomalous flying creatures and mysterious humanoids, parapsychological phenomena, and bizarre events experienced by those investigating the sightings.
