Musician Billy Ray Cyrus admitted to a lifelong fascination with UFOs during an appearance earlier this month on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

"Well, I don’t talk about it all that often, to be honest, but it goes back to when I was a little boy growing up in Kentucky," Cyrus said during the November 6th interview. "There was this place back in the mountains. There were these big, old beech trees back there, and beech trees are good to carve on with a knife. And way back in the 1930s, a guy that lived back in the mountains had had this experience in which he carved the pictures on a tree. I found them when I was a little boy and it was an old Model T Ford and a saucer and this alien looking thing."

"I started researching and I go wait, man, there was like an alien invasion in Kentucky in the late 1930s," he continued. "Who knew about that? So, I kind of got fascinated with it as a little boy, and then a couple times throughout life I’ve seen some crazy stuff. Some of it, I’m sure, most of it is probably explainable."

The “alien invasion” referred to by Cyrus might be the Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter, which actually took place in 1955 at an isolated homestead in rural Kentucky, and involved a family who claimed to have been beset one evening by “little grey men” following the sighting of a large, metallic object which streaked across the sky and appeared to land in a nearby field. The little men had big heads, long arms, huge eyes, oversized hands, and seemed to be wearing clothing made out of a metallic substance.

The startled Kentuckians armed themselves and fired on the creatures—to no effect—and eventually fled to alert the police. Police officers investigated the scene, and although they didn’t find any little grey men, they did find bullet holes in the areas of the home the men said they had shot at the creatures; noting that the witnesses seemed genuinely terrified and excited, and that there was no indication that alcohol was involved.

Clarkson shared a photograph during the interview, taken by Cyrus in 2017, which shows a blurry, white streak of light across the sky.

"I remember that one right there, that’s a beauty," Cyrus said of the photograph. "I took that with my Blackberry."

Billy Ray Cyrus’s appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show came less than three weeks after his daughter, Miley, shared her own UFO sighting experience with Rick Owens for Interview Magazine.

"I was driving through San Bernardino with my friend, and I got chased down by some sort of UFO," she told Owens. "I’m pretty sure about what I saw, but I’d also bought weed wax from a guy in a van in front of a taco shop, so it could have been the weed wax. But the best way to describe it is a flying snowplow. It had this big plow in the front of it and was glowing yellow. I did see it flying, and my friend saw it, too. There were a couple of other cars on the road and they also stopped to look, so I think what I saw was real."

Miley said the experience left her "shaken for, like, five days."

"I couldn’t really look at the sky the same," she said. "I thought they might come back."

Despite that, Miley said that she didn't feel threatened by the experience.

"I didn’t feel threatened at all, actually, but I did see a being sitting in the front of the flying object. It looked at me and we made eye contact, and I think that’s what really shook me, looking into the eyes of something that I couldn’t quite wrap my head around," she said. "But you’re so right to say that it’s a form of narcissism to think that we’re the only things that could be in this vast universe."

It is unknown when Miley’s experience took place or who the “friend” was whom she referenced in her story.
