A man working in Cleveland County, near Casar, North Carolina, claims to have found a set of mysterious footprints early this month that some are saying could belong to Bigfoot.

“I seen some tracks there,” electrician Joe Scarborough told WCNC News. “And I was looking down real close and I said ‘man, somebody’s got a big foot.’ Then I got looking closer and I said ‘man, that’s 13, 14 inches.’ So, I went back to the truck and got my tape measure, and went back down there and looked at it closer, and it was fresh.”

Scarborough said he determined the tracks were fresh based on the small plants pressed down in the mud.

A leading skeptical hypothesis to explain the tracks are that they represent multiple black bear prints overlaid on top of each other, but detractors of that explanation have pointed out that the size of the prints, their shape, and the lack of claw marks all make it less likely that they were caused by a bear. Black bear prints are normally no longer than eight inches, and the middle toe is the most prominent; both qualities seem contrary to what was found by Scarborough.

Curious to see whether or not something paranormal might be at play, Scarborough plans on investigating the site further.

“I’m going to spend the night,” he said. “I’m going to go back, and I’m going to take some game cameras, and I’m going to put up in there and I’m going to see what happens. I mean, why not? Of course, [it’s] hard to believe until you see it yourself. You don’t know how many hoaxes are out there.”

“The pictures prove itself,” he added.
