Bidding closed on January 19th for a purportedly haunted painting being sold on Trade Me--a popular auction website in New Zealand.

The seller, who lists his name as Shane in his profile, said that the painting was purchased at Resale Therapy, an antique shop in Pauanui; although Shane is based in the city of Hamilton.

According to Shane, the paranormal art is not cursed, although it is suspected to be haunted.

"[The painting] fell off the wall one night, and another night a shadowy figure was cast (moving) from the upstairs room window where painting is hung (no one in room) investigated and my own shadow was cast onto the driveway when I looked out the window....creepy....partner asleep and no one else in house," he wrote.

After the initial phenomena, the painting was moved into the home's garage, which seemed to halt the paranormal activity.

Shane was insistent in his replies to potential buyers that, while the events were unsettling, he was not frightened by the activity, and he would like to see the painting with someone who appreciates its paranormal aspects.

"[I am] not exactly afraid of it, just uneasy," he replied in the question and answer section of the auction page.  "Some people will like the possibility of shadows and unexplained falling off walls, others like me get slightly creeped out by it. I never really believed in this stuff and now I'm buying white sage...that alone says this painting has caused some unease in my house."

The New Zealand man also emphasized that he was not selling the painting strictly to make a profit.

"This certainly isn't a lie just to get money or top dollar, trust me the $100 less what I paid isn't worth my time to answer all the questions...and my feedback rating speaks for itself," Shane insisted.

The painting was sold for $150 at the auction's close after having been initially listed for $40.
